Kebbi state government says it will not take lightly to non-remittance of fertilizer proceeds into government coffers.

The Chief of Staff, Government House, Birnin Kebbi Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu Jarman Kabi gave the warning this Tuesday on behalf of Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, while receiving the report of the 2020 wet season fertilizer verification committee.
Alhaji Suleiman Muhammad Argungu said the government would carefully study the report and take appropriate action against those involved in non-remittance of fertilizer sales as contained in the report of the committee.
He announced that a meeting would be held this Wednesday involving Ministry of Agriculture, KASCOM and Local Government Chairmen to reappraise fertilizer procurement and distribution.

The Chief of Staff further acknowledged the report of the committee which indicated that fertilizer sales by KASCOM was done unilaterally without adequate publicity to farmers, many of whom failed to benefit.
Presenting the report, the chairman of the seven member committee, Alhaji Abubakar Bello a retired Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, said the members visited all the fifteen fertilizer depots of KASCOM in the state in line with their mandate to verifying quantity delivered, distributed and money realized from sales of the commodity.

He told the Chief of Staff that the committee detected a shortfall in the amount of fertilizer procured for the wet season and the quantity delivered to the state, while there was shortage in the money remitted to government accruing from fertilizer sales.
Furthermore, the committee noticed that no single bag of fertilizer was delivered to Augie and Shanga local governments.
