Pope Vatican – People are more Important than the Economy
Pope Francis said on Sunday 1 May 2020 that people are more important than the economy at a time when countries are making decisions about the reopen their economies after months of general isolation.
The Pope said this aside from a written text in his first sermon at noon three months ago from the Apostolic Palace overlooking Saint Peter’s Square on Sunday, at a time when Italy is approaching the end of the general isolation.
“Restoring the well-being of people and not providing (money) to help the economy (is important). (The important thing) is taking care of the people are more important than the economy,” the Pope said. The Pope did not specify countries by their names.
Many governments make decisions about whether to reopen their economies to maintain jobs and standards of living or continue public isolation until they are sure that the virus is under full control.
