The two-headed snake – All you should know

As we are tired of talking here, few things are more  interesting  than the animal world. This is because, in it, we can find several species, whether terrestrial, aquatic or flying. We can find animals of all sizes, from the very small to animals that can leave us jaw-dropping with their sizes.

We also find animals that can be a real rarity. The snakes are not animals most beloved by the people. Some find them nice, but most are terrified. Even so, they are among the animals that most fascinate people.

There are thousands of species around the world and it seems that not all of the existing species have yet been discovered. And some that we know are scary even for people who are fascinated by these animals. Like this two-headed snake that was recently discovered in Palm Harbor, Florida.

This discovery was made by a cat named Olive. The family that owned the pet saw the two-headed snake for the first time about a month ago. According to a post on Facebook, the snake was found on the living room floor.

The family was surprised to see that the snake had two heads attached to the same body and that each one was able to move its eyes, neck and move its tongue independently of the other. The family even named the snake "Dos", which is Spanish for "two".

"His biggest problem is eating. We are trying a lot, but he has trouble coordinating his two heads," wrote Kay Rogers, the cat's owner, of the two-headed snake on Facebook.

This phenomenon is known as bicefalia and is an unusual abnormality that occurs during embryonic development when identical twins are unable to separate completely.

The phenomenon can be seen in all types of animals. And people generally find live bicephalous snakes once a year.

In 2019, a double-headed baby rattlesnake named Double Dave appeared in New Jersey. And in 2018, a two-headed viper was sliding down to a family home in Virginia. Of course, in 2020 a two-headed snake needed to appear.

Animals born with this condition tend to have a difficult life in the jungle. Even because its competing brains make it difficult for the animal to do things such as catching its prey or fleeing from predators. Because of this, they often end up being cared for by wildlife experts.

The Dos snake is currently being looked after by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC). According to FWC experts, Dos is a young black runner snake from the south. A species of small, non-poisonous snake that is common in the southwestern United States.

This two-headed snake certainly has a better chance of surviving being cared for by FWC herpetologists than if it were in the wild. However, Dos's life is far from easy. Especially in nature, two heads are not always better than one.
